Rabies Clinic
Paragould Animal Clinic’s Tera Dill, Shana LaBouve, Valene Ingle & Dr. Emily Meurrier, DVM held a rabies clinic at PAWS
Dr. Emily Meurrier, DVM of the Paragould Animal Clinic held a rabies clinic at the PAWS Shelter in December. Over fifty local animals attended the clinic for rabies shots that cost only $7, which is about half of the normal cost.
New Animal Ordinance
The proposed ordinance would require owners to have their dangerous animal confined indoors or in a pen on the owner’s property; to not allow the dangerous animal out without the animal being on a leash at least four feet in length; and owners of Pit Bulls or wolf-hybrids must acquire $100,000 worth of liability insurance.
According to the proposed ordinance, if a person complains to the city that an animal attacked him or her the Chief Animal Control Officer will investigate the matter. The owner may be asked to remove the animal from within the city limits. If the animal attacks again, the animal control officer will seize and impound the animal. Death of the animal may become a consequence if the seizing or impoundment of the animal is not possible without the risk of harm or death to the officer. Persons found guilty of violating the proposed ordinance would be convicted of a misdemeanor and fined no less than $200 for the first offense and no more than $1,000 for the third and subsequent offenses.
Holiday Pet Photos
A Smashing Success!
Robin Jurczyk posed with her favorite boy “Harold” at Child Art Studios Holiday Pet Photos for PAWS
PAWS wishes to thank John Kennett of Child Art Studio for yet another successful year of Holiday Pet Photos! The fundraiser raised over $400. Two PAWS up to a business that gives back to the community. We appreciate this fundraiser as all proceeds benefit the non-profit PAWS Shelter. Two PAWS up to Child Art Studio and John Kennett!
Everybody Loves
Henry!
PAWS humane educator “Henry Wrinkles” is back to work teaching children, this time at Paragould Junior High. To help celebrate his educational program the school invited him to the big Pep Rally of the year complete with a special cheer and introduction by the lovely RAMS cheerleaders! Two PAWS up to their new four legged student!
PAWS Birthday Parties!
Emily Miller brings donations to PAWS received from her
11th Year Birthday Party. Emily has now donated her birthday gifts for three years, thanks Emily!

Zoë Blankenship (Front row 4th from left) & friends!
Two local girls recently renounced birthday gifts to help the homeless animals at the PAWS shelter. Zoë Blankenship, age 7, of Paragould and Emily Miller, age 11, of Jonesboro both opted to have their birthday parties support PAWS and asked guests to bring pet food, animal supplies, toys, and kitty litter. The girls both love animals and have had “PAWS Parties” before. PAWS Shelter Director and volunteer Judy Maurizi says “It’s so refreshing to see kids giving back to the community that are that young and caring about animals, we really appreciate their donations”.
2007 Christmas Parade
RC Hobbies owner Quinton Robbins & pal made sure PAWS & “Henry Wrinkles” were the hit of the Paragould Christmas Parade. “Henry” thrilled the crowd in his custom remote controlled red convertible!
Students at St. Mary’s donated pet food, treats and money to PAWS volunteer Laura Wood in December. The kids raised over $90 and made a custom stocking for PAWS to hang at the shelter. Two PAWS up to the caring kids at St. Mary’s!
From the Adoption Files……
I adopted “Buddy” this Saturday. We are doing great. He is so sweet and happy. I take him on a walk in the neighborhood in the morning, go home and play with him at lunch and then we walk in the park after work. He likes the backyard, but I think he prefers to stay indoors. You all did a great job with him. I am taking him to my vet today to have him all looked over and to make sure he is alright and to get him on a vet schedule for shots, worms, etc. Alison A. Dennington From PAWS to Alison – Dear Alison, what can we say but ahhhhh! Buddy is in his element. Thank you so much for giving him a home. Give him a big kiss from us! Judy, Kristen & Kenny
Dear PAWS,
“Jessie” is doing great! She has adopted us and is such a pleasure to have around. Thanks so much for her! Carol & Nell Cates – Maynard, AR

Hey PAWS, thought you might like to see a few pics a “Yogi Bear” (aka Twidgett) He is settling in very well. I have become his “person” He follows me everywhere. Alex (our 4 year old human child) loves him. She has always wanted a cat and because of Dad’s cat allergies has not been able to have one. “Yogi” has many cat qualities and loves the attention she gives him. He went to the vet today for neutering (ouch). The vet thinks he is between 6 and 7 months. He weighed 3.2 pounds. If he had been less than 3 pounds they would not have done the surgery. Just wanted to give you an update…Thanks for all you do!!!! Alan Jeter

Hi Judy!
This is a picture of “Tess” (formerly Wendy) I thought you might like to see what a beautiful dog she has turned in to. She is truly a wonderful companion, so kind and gentle. She loves to lay on the chaise lounge and look out the window. She really does have the Life of Riley, LOL. Thanks, as I am really the lucky one! Donna McClure - Memphis, Tennessee
Just updating you on “Morgan” (f/n/a Precious). We adopted “Morgan” from Paws five years ago. We got her in November 2002. She is doing great. We still think she is the sweetest little girl. She lives here in Winnebago Illinois. We adopted a black lab from local county shelter in July of this year. She has always had other dogs here with her. When we lost our dear black lab Bo in March she was an only child for a few months. She likes having a big dog to boss. We love her dearly. She is very healthy and happy. Thanks for sending her our way.
The Creamer Family - Winnebago, Illinois
Hello from “Dennis the Bunny”, check out my bunny house and my new family!

“Max” (left) is one of a kind and we love him big time! “Sam Elliot” (right) loves it here and we are happy he is here!
To all the PAWS Staff and little animals, hope all a safe and nice holiday. We love our “Max” and “Sam Elliott”. They are so cute, we can’t say how much we love these babies.
Sharon & Dennis Hatcher - Paragould
PAWS Staff, just a little not of thanks for letting us use your parking lot for the rabies clinic!
Dr. Emily Meurrier, DVM & Staff
Dear Friends at PAWS, my husband and I want to thank you for taking our little tiny kitten in and nursing him until he was weaned. We loved him so much and cannot understand how we could have let him get to us like he did. We still think of him and miss him. We can’t keep him under our circumstances. We will be happy if he gets a good home that loves him like we did. This may sound crazy to all of you. We can’t understand it either, I have checked on him twice and I really appreciate it that I can. We are not sure if we can come see him before he is adopted. It may hurt too much to let him go. Thanks ever so much. P.S. Your work and service is wonderful and appreciated by many I am sure. Thanks Again. Jerry & Alene Murphy
Hi, remember “Miss Ellie”, the beardie from this summer? Well, she found a home….ours LOL She has turned out to be a wonderful addition to the family. She did have some troubles at first. Her heartworm was more severe than we thought and had to undergo some extensive treatments. She made it through all of them and is doing great; the other beardies treat her as one of the family. Thank you again for contacting me about her and I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Take care - Don Schild
PAWS thousandth adoption at the new shelter took place on 8/24/07, and was a Russian Blue cat named “Mohena”! Since 1998 we have placed over three thousand animals! Two PAWS up to PAWS!
